History of Our Hospital

Dr. Shields purchased BVH from Dr. Cristy in May of 1968 and practiced for four years in a 2-room attic sun-porch on Pickering Street. In 1972, the old Beanery restaurant on Route 36 was modified to become the veterinary hospital until November 10, 2006 when we moved into our amazing new facility on the edge of town. A lot has changed through all these years. The dog has moved from the barnyard to the back yard, from the back yard to the living room, and from the living room to the bedroom and even in the master’s bed! Cats and pocket pets are no longer disposable—their personality cannot be replaced! Our hospital focus has adapted as well—going from predominately farm animal care to primarily pet care. The bond between a human and their pet has transformed the practice of veterinary medicine, and Brookville Veterinary Hospital has grown to accommodate this need. Now every technology is employed to preserve the life of your beloved family member. We’ve gone from a doctor with a couple helpers to a health-care team devoted to meeting your pet’s need.
