7 Ways to Keep Your Cat Healthy

June 16, 2020

Cats have a reputation for being easy keepers. This isn’t exactly wrong. Fluffy is quite independent! However, your furry pal does need lots of TLC in order to truly thrive. A Brookville, PA vet offers some tips on keeping kitties happy and healthy in this article.

Good Food

Good nutrition really is the cornerstone of any solid pet care regimen. Get Fluffy the best kitty food you can afford. Ask your vet for specific advice, including portion sizes and suitable snacks.

Clean Litterbox

Cats like their powder rooms kept clean, and who can blame them? We recommend scooping every day and changing the litter every week. It’s also important to avoid overcrowding. Kitties don’t like sharing bathrooms! The rule of thumb is one box per feline, plus at least one extra.

Playtime!

Kitties are very playful, which is one reason they’re so fun. Pouncing and jumping are actually great for your feline friend, both mentally and physically. Take a few minutes a day to play with Fluffy. This will help keep her strong, offer her beneficial mental stimulation, and keep that motor going.

Stimulation

Playtime is very important, but your kitty also needs to have some ways to amuse herself when you aren’t around. Make sure Fluffy has some toys she can play with by herself. You can also keep your pet entertained by giving her a comfy window seat with a good view; some cat furniture; and boxes and paper bags to explore.

Veterinary Care

Proper veterinary care is very important! We recommend that all kitties be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and kept current on vaccinations, exams, and parasite control. At home, watch for signs of illness, such as hiding, vomiting, poor grooming, fever, litterbox issues, and changes in appetite or behavior. Call your vet immediately if you notice anything amiss.

Keep Kitty In

Fluffy may see herself as a ferocious predator, but at the end of the day, she is actually very small and vulnerable. Keep your furry buddy safe and sound indoors, where she’s protected from the dangers posed by car, weather, traffic, and other hazards.

Purrs

Cats are happiest when they feel loved. Pay lots of attention to Fluffy, and pamper her with toys, catnip, kitty furniture, and, of course, cuddles.
